The attitude of many site owners (or even SEO agencies) is to send a lot of emails to request links from other sites with greater or lesser relevance. Undoubtedly, Wikipedia is one of the sites with the highest SEO authority in the world. By the amount of content it hosted, the fact that its pages are constantly up to date and include an extremely well-structured link structure, the "free" encyclopedia has gained an enviable status (even privileged, some would say ) in the search engine.

Linkbuilding campaigns that tend to get mentions in Wikipedia are notorious for the difficulty of implementing, as links are easy to add, they are as easy to remove as editors, contenders or even simple visitors to the site. Most of the time, we try (without success) to obtain links on Wikipedia by heirup methods, which are not rightly classified as SPAM.

The basic idea is to identify those relevant Wikipedia pages that include non-functional external links (to pages that do not exist) or that require a resource reference. These pages can be identified by a dedicated tool or by a Google search engine with advanced operators. The best automatic verification tool is WikiGrabber, but there may be long periods of time when it is not available (the service does not seem to be maintained by the developer).

In the absence of an instrument to help identify the eligible pages, we use Google's site searches: wikipedia.org keyword "[citation needed]" or site: wikipedia.org keyword "[dead link]" (with what desired). These searches will return pages in Wikipedia containing non-functional links or need to specify a resource. In either case, we can edit relevant material on the site we are dealing with (for example, on the blog), to which we then refer from the Wikipedia page.

Another link building strategy in Wikipedia, which we successfully applied, has gone from the following observation: a product page (a book) from the site we optimize a link from a the author's Wikipedia page. On this model, we identified other authors with Wikipedia pages, in which we integrated a link to the related pages within the site. 42% of the authors kept the links on the Wikipedia personal page (verification after 30 days after adding).
